Terms

These terms cover sessions in the Jake Douglass Private Studio, run by Jake Douglass, sole proprietor. By booking a session you agree to them. “I” and “me” mean Jake Douglass; “you” means the student, or the parent or guardian who books for a student.

Sessions

Every session takes place online, on Zoom. Every student begins with a Discovery Session; ongoing sessions are booked and paid one at a time, through Cal.com and Stripe, when you book each one.

Rescheduling, cancellations and refunds

• With at least 24 hours’ notice, you can reschedule at no charge or cancel for a full refund, whichever you prefer.
• Late cancellations and no-shows (less than 24 hours’ notice): charged in full; no refund. This also applies to the Discovery Session.
• If I cancel, or a session can’t go ahead for a technical reason on my side, you choose a new time or a full refund.
• Refunds are made in full to the card you paid with; I cover any payment processing fee.

The Discovery Session credit

Your $200 Discovery Session is credited in full toward your first payment when you join within 14 days.

• After your Discovery Session, I send you a private link to book your first ongoing session with the $200 already taken off. The credit is tied to the email you booked with, and the 14 days start on the day of your Discovery Session. I’ll email you the exact expiry date.
• One credit per person. It can’t be transferred and has no cash value.
• If the first session that carries the credit is cancelled late or missed, the usual rule above applies, and the credit counts as used.
• A Discovery Session given free through a referral partner carries no credit.
• Anyone who booked, or was quoted a price, before this website launched keeps that price, without the credit.

Recordings and confidentiality

Every session is recorded and shared with the student for personal review and practice. I share the recording with you through a private Zoom link that works for 7 days, so download your copy if you’d like to keep it. Zoom makes a transcript, and I use Claude (by Anthropic) for notes and to draft your action plan; the Privacy Policy explains how long I keep each one. By booking, you agree that:

• recordings are for the enrolled student’s personal use only;
• recordings may not be shared, distributed, uploaded or published in any form, including social media, video sites, file-sharing platforms or any other public or semi-public place;
• recordings may not be used for commercial purposes;
• I keep ownership of all session recordings and may withdraw access if this policy is broken;
• breaking this policy may end our work together, without a refund.

This protects both your learning space and the teaching methods used in sessions.

Students under 18

Students must be 10 or older. A parent or guardian books for anyone under 18, consents to recording on the student’s behalf, and is present for the whole Discovery Session when the student is under 16. Students aged 16 and 17 may attend alone with a parent’s or guardian’s consent.

What coaching is and isn’t

Coaching is music education and coaching, as the statement below says. It isn’t therapy, medical care or addiction treatment, and results depend on the work you do between sessions; I can’t promise a particular outcome.

Responsibility and law

To the extent the law allows, my total responsibility for any claim about a session is limited to the amount you paid for that session. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington.

Changes

When these terms change, the date at the top changes too. A change never affects a session you have already paid for.
